Volunteer Resources

Insulated Delivery Bags

Volunteers use their own insulated containers when they deliver. You will need at least 2 – one for hot items and one for cold items. Not sure what to use? Check out the MOW Insulated Delivery Bag available for our cost of $35.

Volunteer Benefit

New savings for MOW volunteers. Thanks to MOWAA’s partnership with Bridgestone/Firestone, you now have access to their PartnersPlus program, which will give you 15% off the regular price for all of their products and services.

Participating locations are Firestone Complete Auto Care, TiresPlus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works. If you aren’t sure which, if any, of these stores are near you, click on the following link and enter your zip code: Store locator.

To get started, click on the following link: PartnersPlus, then enter the code 89193405 and hit “submit.” You will then have the opportunity to set up your own user name and password.

Friendly Reminders

  • Leave meals with Meals on Wheels clients only.  If a meal recipient does not answer the door (even if they make a habit of not answering the door) please leave a door hanger and call Meals on Wheels. Every time!  You can then give that meal to another person on your route that gets a comparable meal. Please do not leave meals with their friend or at a neighbor’s house and NEVER leave a meal outside.

  • Call MOW immediately when… You have concerns of any kind about a recipient- You have direction changes or delivery information. Write the information on your route sheet. When you are finished with your route, please leave it in the container in the lobby or fax to 864-235-1264. ALL Messages will be picked up and reviewed daily.- A recipient does not answer the door–even if they never answer the door

  • Hot  vs. Cold…Remember to keep hot meals separate from drinks and frozen meals. It is all about food safety!

  • BYOC We encourage volunteers to bring their own insulated containers.  A larger one for your hot meals (perhaps on wheels) and a smaller one for frozen meals and cold beverages.  Using your own container ensures that there will always be one available for you and that it is clean!  It also eliminates the need to return to MOW after your route to return coolers which saves you time and mileage.

  • Need a day off? Please call to let us know if you are unable to volunteer on your regular day due to vacation, illness, or for any other reason so we     may arrange for a substitute.  If you have arranged for your own substitute, THANK YOU! but still let us know who will be filling your shoes.

  • Substitute list available. If you have not already done so, please pick up a list of substitutes for your route at the reception desk.
